Teacher of Handwork and Visual Arts, K–6, 0.3 FTE
Permanent, 0.3 FTE, part-time (2024–2025 academic year)
In order to serve a varied student body in an environment that promotes active inquiry, personal development, and respect for oneself, others, and the environment, Okanagan Waldorf School is looking for a creative, inspired handwork/visual arts instructor.
The ideal applicant is enthusiastic about sharing their love of the arts with students in the grades, has experience working in a private school setting, and has taught handwork and watercolor painting to groups of kids. They are trustworthy, patient, and well-organized. They enjoy working with kids, are devoted to teaching quality, and are ready to contribute to a vibrant community of committed educators and learners. A Waldorf Certificate, valid via the BC Teachers Regulation Branch, or a BC Teaching Certificate is preferred. Additionally, the applicant must be driven to learn more and explore curricular methodologies inspired by the pedagogical methodology of Waldorf Education.
In addition to teaching, duties include committee work, class preparation, attending department and faculty meetings on a regular basis, helping to organize and carry out festivals, writing student reports, and visiting with parents. The chosen applicant will have proven to have excellent classroom management abilities, a thorough understanding of young children's development, the capacity to establish professional connections with parents, teachers, and staff, and a strong desire to participate in our school's collaborative efforts.
REQUIREMENTS
Teaching watercolor painting and handicrafts, including knitting, crocheting, and sewing.
possess or are capable of obtaining BC Teachers Regulation Branch Certification
Unblemished Criminal History
a passion for and readiness to work every day on a farm and in a rural forest environment.
PREFERRED
completion of an AWSNA-approved Waldorf Grades Teacher Training program or enrollment in one
current first aid, or be prepared to acquire it
SALARY: $15,017 to $19,603 annually depending on qualifications and experience
